Warforged - I : Voice 'Album Review'

After a little research on warforged and never listening to any of their material before i was excited to hear this! anything proggy is up my alley!

This band is basically the 'Swans' of extreme metal take that how you will, You will either be absolutely on board and loving the imagery they craft or it will just make you go "I don't get it" and switch it off and listen to slayer or some shit.

Luckily for Warforged i am on board the train of insanity and techy time signatures, haunting atmospheres and brutal harshness they inflict with every song.

Every song is PACKED full to the brim with insane musicianship and can be overwhelming to take it all in! (which i think is part of the point) The album stunningly flows in with 'We've Been Here Before' and had me immediately by the heart and balls, the juxtaposition between beautiful atmosphere and harsh, abrasive riffing and vocals make you want to smash shit and cry.

'Beneath The Forest Floor' is techy and almost frightening with tension that was building throughout the song and at any point the christmas bell monster was going to get you and educate you about music theory.

'Cellar' this one was groovy and heavy with a almost circus beat mixed with atmosphere and soul showing further diversity of their musicianship and songwriting ability.

'Nightfall Came' this was their 'opeth' track in fact if you told me it was 'opeth' i would have believed you its that uncanny at times, but obviously it's got those exterminties that only 'warforged' can do that really make it stand out.

'Voice' was one of my favorites the sinisterness of this song was bone chilling and i loved every second and genuinly felt creeped out while im being screamed at with blast beats in the background.

'Eat Them While They Sleep' which sounds like a 'Cannibal Corpse' song from the title was definitely the weaker track on the album with outright bizarre sections and strange "artistic choices".

'Willow' second longest track to the album clocked at 9:29 mins. loved the minimalism in the first half of the song comparatively to previous tracks it certainly makes it stand out and gives it gravity when it slams in like a train with its whirlwind of chaos after a almost keytar sounding solo.

'Old Friend/The Colour Of My Memory' MY FAVORITE TRACKS at 12 and 9 mins each i was ready for the ride and boy did they deliver! the songs have drama, brutality, beauty, versatility and most importantly RIFFS! by then end i felt like i went on a journey and came out a different person, had to put these together due to them basically being pt1 and 2. It felt conclusive and thought provoking making me reflect on this journey i have had with 'warforged'. now breathe.

Overview: Atmospheric, frighting, heavy, brutal, intense and beautiful. Truly a journey of musical insanity and genius packed into a rollercoaster of emotions and riffs. Now it's time for me to go through their back catalogue.

9.5/10 RIFFS
