Devils Playground is a driving force of Nu Metal in the UK with catchy groovy riffs and duel vocals they cover a fair few bases of groove rhythm and melody etc 'The Collector' feels like their breakthrough album and feels like they are really finding themselves.
During the album its the riffs(personally) that really stand out in all their Nu Metal glory! really reminiscent of static-x and coal chamber and I caught myself nodding and bouncing beyond my control, I am not a fan of clean vocals in metal unless it's crafted well and makes sense within the music and to Devils Playgrounds credit I feel they got a good balance but other times I wasn't so sure but that`s a personal preference etc but there`s so much variety vocally between the two vocalists it keeps the flow going well and doesn't over saturate. Obviously with Nu Metal there is not going to be an incredible variety of styles and structures due to the restrictive nature and style that it is but 'Devils Playground' throw you for a loop with some heavy moments and groove that is undeniable and some catchy hooks that will invade your mind.
However, The mix for the album is inconsistent, its unbalanced through all the tracks be it the vocals or guitars sound out of the mix and not blending quite right, or one track that doesn't sound as well produced as a previous track and the odd cuts and fade-outs that are just jarring (after 2 listens to the album). But for the majority, this album is solid.
Overall a good listen with great grooves and bouncy energy and catchy hooks, if that's your thing you will love this album for sure!
